Over 550 Hajj pilgrims have tragically died in Makkah as the region experiences one of its hottest summers on record. Temperatures soared beyond 50°C (122°F), creating perilous conditions for the millions participating in the annual Islamic pilgrimage.
The unprecedented heat wave has gripped the Arabian Peninsula, with Makkah being one of the hardest-hit areas. The Hajj, one of the Five Pillars of Islam, draws millions of Muslims from around the globe, and despite extensive preparations, the extreme weather has taken a heavy toll this year.
Emergency services in Saudi Arabia have been stretched to their limits, with medical teams working around the clock to provide care for heat-affected pilgrims. Heatstroke, dehydration, and other heat-related illnesses have been widespread, exacerbated by the intense physical and spiritual demands of the Hajj rites.
