In a landmark decision, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has ordered Israel to cease its military operations in the Rafah region of Gaza. The ruling came in response to an emergency request by South Africa, which accused Israel of genocide in the conflict-stricken area.

The court’s decision is legally binding, but it lacks a mechanism for enforcement, placing the onus on the international community to ensure compliance.

The situation in Rafah has been dire, with more than 900,000 Palestinians displaced and lacking basic necessities such as shelter, food, water, and medical supplies. The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Gaza reported a critical shortage of fuel for generators, putting countless lives at risk.
