In a decisive legislative move, the Bulgarian Parliament has passed an amendment to the national education law that bans the promotion, popularization, and support of ideas related to non-traditional sexual orientations or sexual identifications other than biological sex in schools. The amendment was approved by a substantial majority, with 159 out of 240 lawmakers voting in favor.
The newly approved amendment stipulates that educational institutions are prohibited from teaching or endorsing concepts related to non-traditional sexual orientations or identities that deviate from biological definitions of sex. This includes any curricular or extracurricular activities that might promote or support such ideas.
The amendment’s proponents argue that it is necessary to uphold traditional values and ensure that educational content aligns with the cultural and societal norms of Bulgaria. “This legislation is a reflection of our commitment to preserving the core values of our society,” said a leading supporter of the amendment. “It is important that our educational system remains consistent with these values.”
