In a significant step towards mending bilateral relations, the foreign ministers of Australia and China convened in Canberra to discuss a range of issues. This meeting comes ahead of a planned visit by China’s Premier Li Qiang to Australia later this year.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and her Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, engaged in what has been described as a “frank exchange of views.”

The meeting is seen as a positive development, with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighting the progress made in “dispelling doubts and boosting trust.” The ministers agreed on the importance of a mature and productive relationship, which requires ongoing work and dialogue.
