Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong announced that China will take concrete actions to bolster global public security, delivering his remarks at the opening of the 2024 Conference of Global Public Security Cooperation Forum. The conference, held in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, is themed “Win-Win Cooperation Under Significant Changes: Building a Global Community of Common Public Security.”
China has put forward a comprehensive 10-point proposal to strengthen global public security cooperation, with an emphasis on tackling cross-border crime, terrorism, and the growing risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI). The measures, announced by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security (MPS), aim to foster international collaboration on key security issues, including the creation of a safe, open cyberspace.
The proposed measures highlight the importance of global partnerships in addressing shared challenges. These include joint operations to dismantle cross-border crime networks, enhanced intelligence sharing, and coordinated efforts to combat terrorism.
Another focus of China’s proposal is the mitigation of risks linked to the rapid development of AI technologies, which pose new threats to global security. The MPS has called for international cooperation in establishing AI security standards and guidelines to prevent the misuse of emerging technologies.
China’s proposal also stresses the need for open, transparent, and secure digital ecosystems, emphasizing the protection of cyberspace from both criminal exploitation and state-sponsored attacks.
This initiative reflects China’s growing role in shaping international security frameworks, offering a collaborative approach to addressing the evolving landscape of global public security.
In his speech, Wang highlighted China’s active implementation of global security initiatives over the past year. He emphasized the country’s commitment to fostering a global community with a shared future for public security, aiming to harmonize security concepts and interests while advancing international security cooperation.
Wang underscored China’s willingness to collaborate with nations worldwide to promote common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security practices. He expressed China’s intent to deepen exchanges and cooperation in public security and contribute to the development of a more equitable, rational, and efficient global public security governance system.
During the forum, Wang also engaged in meetings with officials from Malaysia, Myanmar, Zambia, Nicaragua, and Russia, discussing collaborative efforts and mutual interests in global security.
