In a decisive address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun has made it clear that China is staunchly opposed to the escalation of military tensions in the Asia-Pacific region. Minister Dong emphasized that China will not tolerate any form of hegemony or power politics that could potentially harm the region’s stability.
“We will not allow geopolitical conflicts, cold wars, or hot wars to be introduced into the Asia-Pacific, nor will we allow any country or any force to create war and chaos here,” Dong stated, asserting China’s commitment to maintaining peace and order.
This strong stance comes against the backdrop of increasing global military activities and the strategic importance of the Asia-Pacific region. Dong’s remarks also follow a meeting with his US counterpart, Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin, marking the first face-to-face interaction between the defence chiefs of the two nations in two years.
