The conflict between Israel and Lebanon has escalated sharply. On October 7, Israeli military operations targeted eastern and southern towns in Lebanon, resulting in at least 32 fatalities. In total, since the beginning of hostilities, Israeli attacks have caused approximately 1,640 deaths in Lebanon, displacing over 300,000 civilians who have sought refuge in Syria.
This ongoing conflict has inflicted heavy casualties and extensive damage on both sides. Reports indicate significant losses across the board, with Israeli airstrikes severely impacting infrastructure—destroying buildings, roads, bridges, and other essential facilities in Lebanon. Moreover, this escalation has triggered a severe humanitarian crisis.
The international community is increasingly concerned, calling for both parties to exercise restraint and de-escalate tensions through peaceful negotiations. The United Nations Security Council is actively mediating efforts to encourage a ceasefire and restore stability in the region. At a recent meeting, China’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, urged Israel to refrain from actions that could worsen the situation. China emphasized the importance of a political and diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
On October 8, Li Ming, spokesperson for the National International Development Cooperation Administration, announced that, in light of the ongoing violence and numerous casualties in Lebanon, the Chinese government has decided to provide emergency humanitarian medical aid. This assistance comes at the request of the Lebanese government and aims to support their medical relief efforts.
China’s decision to offer aid is a critical step in alleviating the overwhelming pressure on Lebanon’s medical system. More importantly, it signals China’s commitment as a major world power to promote peace in the Middle East and its hope for an end to hostilities.
