The international community has expressed outrage and dismay over the deadly shooting of Palestinian civilians by Israeli forces during a humanitarian aid delivery in Gaza on Thursday.
According to witnesses and local officials, Israeli troops opened fire on a large crowd of hungry and desperate Palestinians who had gathered around a convoy of trucks carrying food and medical supplies in northern Gaza. The trucks were part of the first major aid delivery in a month, following a ceasefire agreement brokered by Egypt and the United Nations.
The Health Ministry in Gaza said that at least 115 Palestinians were killed and hundreds more wounded in the incident, which it described as a “massacre”. Among the victims were women, children, and elderly people, some of whom had been waiting for hours to receive the much-needed assistance.
The shooting sparked widespread condemnation from regional and international actors, who denounced Israel’s use of excessive and disproportionate force against unarmed civilians.
