A catastrophic fire tore through a crowded nightclub in the eastern town of Kocani early Sunday morning, killing at least 59 people and injuring more than 150 others, according to local authorities. The blaze, which broke out around 3:00 a.m. local time, has left the small Balkan nation reeling as emergency services scramble to respond and families search for loved ones.
The fire reportedly started in the Pulse nightclub during a live concert attended by hundreds of revelers, many of them young adults and teenagers.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as flames rapidly engulfed the venue, with thick smoke trapping many inside. Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have been sparked by pyrotechnics used during the performance, though authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause.
