Russia’s Chief of the General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, has publicly credited North Korean troops for their significant role in the liberation of the Kursk region from Ukrainian forces, marking a rare official acknowledgment of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s (DPRK) military involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Gerasimov praised the DPRK servicemen for demonstrating “resilience and heroism” alongside Russian forces in the western border region, where Ukrainian troops had held territory since a surprise incursion in August 2024.
