The announcement, made via Musk’s social media platform X, comes on the heels of his public fallout with President Donald Trump over the recently signed $3.3 trillion tax-cut and spending bill, which Musk has vehemently criticized as a “disgusting abomination” that risks bankrupting the nation.
Musk’s decision to launch the America Party follows a poll he posted on X on July 4, 2025, asking his 220 million followers whether they supported breaking free from the “two-party (some would say uniparty) system.” The poll results, which Musk cited as showing 65.4% in favor of a new party, appear to have catalyzed his decision. “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk declared. “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
The America Party, according to its newly updated website linked to Musk’s America PAC, aims to represent the “80 percent in the middle” of the American electorate. Its platform emphasizes small business support, a digital bill of rights for free expression, merit-based immigration, STEM-first education, and investment in “next-gen nuclear” power and space exploration, including lunar logistics and Mars R&D. The party also proposes pilot projects for Universal Basic Income to address AI-driven job displacement, reflecting Musk’s tech-centric vision.
Musk’s move also intensifies his ongoing feud with former ally President Trump and other MAGA figures, notably Steve Bannon, who has called Musk a “non-American” and pushed for his deportation, despite Musk’s U.S. citizenship since 2002. Musk fired back, labeling Bannon a “fat, drunken slob” and dismissing his attacks as baseless. The billionaire’s fallout with Trump began after Musk’s departure from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in May 2025, following disagreements over the administration’s spending policies.
