Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for a rocket attack on an Israeli military position in the northern occupied territories. The Lebanese resistance movement reported that Katyusha rockets were fired at the newly established headquarters of the 146th Division in Giaton on Monday, August 12, 2024.
Hezbollah’s statement indicated that the attack was a response to Israeli strikes on civilian areas in southern Lebanon, particularly in Maaroub, and also a gesture of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. The Israeli Iron Dome air defense system reportedly failed to intercept many of the rockets, resulting in a significant fire in the western Galilee region.
This escalation follows Israel’s near-daily attacks on southern Lebanon since October 7, which began with a large-scale military operation against Gaza. Hezbollah has vowed to continue defending Lebanese territory and to seek retribution for the recent assassinations of its senior commanders Fuad Shukr and Hamas’ former leader Ismail Haniyeh, killed in separate Israeli operations.
