Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have been acquitted by a Pakistani court in an unlawful marriage case. The acquittal marks the conclusion of a series of legal battles that have dogged the couple since their marriage in 2018.
The court found insufficient evidence to support the allegations that the marriage was conducted in violation of Islamic laws.
The charges claimed that the marriage took place before the completion of Bushra Bibi’s Iddat period, a mandatory waiting period observed by Muslim women after a divorce or the death of a husband.
