At least nine Palestinians have been killed and 20 wounded in a raid by Israeli forces in the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian officials say.
The Israeli military said it targeted a cell of the Islamic Jihad group that was planning “major attacks” on Israeli civilians and soldiers.
The raid sparked clashes between Palestinian gunmen and Israeli troops, who used gunfire and air strikes.
The Palestinian Authority condemned the raid as a “massacre” and announced it was ending security coordination with Israel.
The raid was the deadliest in the West Bank in years and raised fears of further escalation.
