Magnitude 7.4 Earthquake Strikes Japan, Triggering Tsunami Warning

Japan experienced a powerful earthquake today with a magnitude measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale.

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported a quake on Monday hitting Ishikawa and nearby prefectures, one of them measuring a preliminary magnitude of 7.4.


It issued a major tsunami warning for Ishikawa and lower-level tsunami warnings or advisories forthe rest of the northwestern coast of the island of Honshu.
