The United Nations General Assembly session on Wednesday witnessed a heated debate over the recent incidents of Quran burning in Sweden and Denmark by far-right extremists. Several Muslim leaders condemned the acts of desecration and called for respect and tolerance for all religions.
The Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said that the Quran burning was a “barbaric and hateful act” that violated the human dignity and rights of millions of Muslims around the world.
He urged the international community to take action against the perpetrators and prevent such provocations from happening again. He also accused some Western countries of supporting and encouraging Islamophobia and extremism.
