Yemen’s Houthi rebels have launched their first ballistic missile attack on Israel since the current regional war intensified, explicitly entering the conflict in solidarity with Iran after the US and Israeli aggression towards Tehran.
Houthi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree announced that the group carried out a “barrage of ballistic missiles” targeting “sensitive Israeli military sites” in southern Israel. The statement described the operation as the rebels’ inaugural direct military action in support of Iran amid ongoing U.S.-Israeli aggression on Iranian targets.
The attack follows days of Houthi warnings that their “fingers are on the trigger” and threats to intervene if the conflict against Iran expands. It comes as part of a broader escalation involving Iranian missile strikes on Israel and Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and military infrastructure.
Analysts view the move as opening a potential new front, raising concerns about renewed Houthi disruptions to Red Sea shipping lanes, which previously forced rerouting of global trade. The Houthis have a history of launching drones and missiles toward Israel during the Gaza conflict, most of which were intercepted.
