Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused the US of being an enthusiastic supporter of regime change and coups whenever it can benefit from the process. Lavrov said that the US has a history of intervening in the internal affairs of other countries, especially those that are not aligned with its interests.
Lavrov also criticized the US for its stance on Ukraine, where he said the US supported a coup in 2014 against the legitimate government of Viktor Yanukovych, who had refused to sign an association agreement with the European Union. He said that the US has been provoking tensions in the region by sending weapons and military advisers to Ukraine and conducting joint exercises with NATO.
Lavrov said that Russia is opposed to any attempts to change regimes by force or external interference.
