Russia is monitoring the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s (NATO) Nordic Response exercises, which Moscow views as provocative, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said on Monday.
“The military is monitoring (these exercises), and has all the necessary means for this,” Grushko told local media.
“We believe that these exercises are of a demonstrative and provocative nature,” he said, adding that any exercises, especially those that are close to the contact line “increase the danger of military incidents.”
Grushko noted that Russia had taken all necessary measures to ensure its defense capabilities in this context.
The NATO Nordic Response 2024 military drill across air, land and sea commenced on Monday and will be held until March 14. The exercise will involve over 20,000 military staff from 13 countries, and will take place in Norway, Finland and Sweden. The latter two are new NATO members.
