Tehran has issued a stern warning to Rome, stating that the continued detention of Mohammad Abedini, an Iranian engineer arrested in Italy on a U.S. warrant, could jeopardize bilateral relations between the two nations. Abedini, accused by the U.S. of supplying drone technology linked to an attack that killed American troops in Jordan, was detained at Milan’s Malpensa airport.
In response, Iran summoned the Italian ambassador to Tehran to protest what they describe as an illegal act influenced by U.S. political goals.
This warning comes amidst a diplomatic tug-of-war involving the detention of an Italian journalist, Cecilia Sala, in Tehran, highlighting the intertwined fates of these detainees in a complex international standoff.
