In a devastating incident in Tamil Nadu, at least 34 laborers have lost their lives, and over 100 individuals have been hospitalized after consuming contaminated alcohol. The illegally brewed liquor, tainted with methanol, has caused a wave of illness and death in the southern Indian state.
The victims, who were laborers, experienced symptoms such as vomiting, stomach aches, and diarrhea after drinking the toxic brew. Ambulances and medical specialists have been dispatched to the affected areas to provide urgent care to those affected.
Authorities have arrested four individuals in connection with the sale of the illicit alcohol and have seized 200 liters of the methanol-mixed drink. The state government has also taken disciplinary action against at least 10 officials, including the district’s chief administrator and its police chief.
