Millions of workers, activists, and community members took to the streets worldwide on International Workers’ Day, rallying under the banner of labor solidarity and resistance against billionaire influence and corporate greed. From New York to Jakarta, May Day 2025 marked a powerful show of unity, with over 1,000 protests across 851 cities in all 50 U.S. states and countless demonstrations in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America, demanding fair wages, union rights, and an end to policies favoring the ultra-wealthy.
New York City saw thousands march against the “right-wing billionaire agenda,” with solidarity extended to Palestinian struggles, reflecting a global call against imperialism. In Chicago, the teachers’ union led a march from Union Park, echoing the city’s historic role in the 1886 Haymarket Affair, which birthed May Day. Baltimore hosted a mass rally with feeder marches, including one for Palestine, emphasizing unity across labor, immigrant, and marginalized communities.
Internationally, the fervor was equally intense. In Jakarta, Indonesian laborers protested for better working conditions, while in Manila, Filipino activists faced police blockades during a march toward the U.S. Embassy. In Athens, Greek workers, led by the Communist-affiliated PAME union, denounced EU-imposed austerity, shutting down museums and transit.
Organizers emphasized nonviolent action, with events featuring music, speeches, and family-friendly activities. Social media amplified the message in solidarity with the labours.
