During a state visit to Malaysia, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized a united front with Malaysia and other Asian nations to counter geopolitical confrontation, unilateralism, and protectionism. Speaking at a welcome dinner hosted by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Xi underscored the importance of regional cooperation amid global economic and political challenges.
Xi’s visit, part of a Southeast Asian tour including Vietnam and Cambodia, comes at a time of heightened tensions due to U.S.-imposed tariffs and a shifting global order. He highlighted the deepening of China-Malaysia ties, noting 31 agreements signed in areas such as trade, tourism, railway transportation, and agriculture. “Together, we will safeguard the bright prospects of our Asian family,” Xi said, advocating for a high-level strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim echoed Xi’s sentiments, affirming China as a “rational, strong, and reliable” ally. The leaders reached consensus on enhancing bilateral cooperation, with Xi promising greater market access for Malaysian agricultural products. Malaysia, facing a 24% U.S. tariff, is navigating a delicate balance in its foreign policy, maintaining strong ties with China while engaging with the U.S.
