Iran’s Supreme Leader Says Nothing Wrong With a Nuclear Deal With West If Infrastructure Remains Intact

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Sunday that there is nothing wrong with reaching a nuclear deal with the West, as long as the country’s nuclear infrastructure remains intact. He also said that Iran should cooperate with the UN’s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), but not yield to its excessive and false demands.

Khamenei’s remarks come amid a stalemate between Tehran and Washington to revive the 2015 nuclear accord with six major powers, which limited Iran’s uranium enrichment activity in exchange for lifting international sanctions.

Former US President Donald Trump withdrew from the deal in 2018 and reimposed sanctions that have crippled Iran’s economy, leading Tehran to gradually breach the deal’s nuclear restrictions.
