Rescue teams in Nepal are frantically searching for more than 60 missing people after a massive landslide swept two buses into a river in the early hours of Friday. The disaster occurred on Friday in Chitwan along the Narayanghat-Mugling highway, about 100km (60 miles) from the capital Kathmandu.
Witnesses recount the harrowing moments as the landslide hit. One survivor described being “thrown out of the window of the bus into the river,” a terrifying ordeal that left him in shock. Only three people are confirmed to have survived the incident, highlighting the scale of the tragedy.
Local authorities have mobilized all available resources, including the army and police, to aid in the search and rescue operations. Helicopters have been deployed to scan the riverbanks and surrounding areas for any signs of life.
